SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A pair of ridiculously cute critters has arrived at the San Francisco Zoo. Officials announced that two capybaras, just 4 months old and weighing only a quarter of their adult weight, are currently acclimating to their new home and will soon be available for viewing.
The male and female sibling pair arrived from the Sacramento Zoo on Thursday. Capybaras are large semi-aquatic rodents from Central and South America, so it was only natural for the younglings to run straight to the pond once they entered their habitat at the SF Zoo's Puente al Sur.

“It was great to see the two of them exploring their new home, taking laps in the pool, and checking things out,” said zoo curator Quinn Brown.
Cassandra Costello, the CEO and executive director at the SF Zoo, said, “The excitement here is palpable. It has been several years since we last housed them here, and they are a favorite not only of our staff, but also of kids and adults alike on a global level!”

The capybaras, which have not yet been named, will acclimate to their home privately for the next several days, the zoo said. They will also be gradually introduced to the zoo’s Baird’s tapir to “create a more dynamic exhibit.”
The zoo has set Tuesday, Oct. 13, as the tentative date for the young pair’s first public viewing.
